Our pupils’ education is so much more than what is experienced in the classroom. At Rookwood we pride ourselves on being able to offer a rich and varied programme of extra-curricular activities for all ages and interests.
Extra-curricular activities give our pupils the opportunity to develop new skills, discover new passions, gain confidence, grow socially and emotionally and to simply enjoy themselves. We have an extra-curricular programme that takes place during the school day but we also offer a range of other opportunities such as trips and residentials.
Our extra-curricular activities change throughout the year to take advantage of the seasons and to ensure that the programme is varied and continues to meet the needs of all pupils from Kindergarten through to Senior. Part of the programme gives pupils the opportunity to pursue sporting interests, and we have offered Gymnastics, Tag Rugby, Football (for boys and girls), Netball, Infant Sports, Cross Country, Wall Climbing and more.
Beyond sports there has always been a range of activities to suit a broad range of interests including Art and Craft clubs, Chess, Coding, Spanish, Drama, Science and Gardening. Our Gardening Club, Growers, has been a particular success and we are proud that Rookwood has now been recognised as a 5 Star Gardening School by the RHS.
Our activities are provided by both school staff and also external facilitators. Activities take place at lunchtimes, after school and in the case of the Duke of Edinburgh Award, at weekends.
Learning beyond school is important and so we also have a rich programme of trips and residentials. The pupils will often visit local sights or attend events to enrich their learning. Our residential programme includes outdoor education experiences for the older Prep school pupils and a range of overseas trips for Senior pupils. Our students regularly get the chance to visit France and Germany as well as to other destinations in Europe.
Rookwood offers so much to our pupils, within and beyond the curriculum. Our extra-curriculum opportunities not only develop our pupils’ minds and bodies but also provide lasting memories.
